Andes Wine History
In the year 1554 the priest Francisco de Carabante introduced the culturing of the grapevine in the south cone of Latin America.
Later, the first vineyards were planted by Francisco de Aguirre (image right), who realized his your first vintage in 1551.
Francisco de Aguirre came to Chile with don Pedro de Valdivia in June, 1540, having taken part in the plunder of Rome in 1527.
He was the founder of the city of Santiago del Estero, Argentina, to the one that it named this way in honoring to the foundation done by Valdivia on the banks of the Mapocho River, of the Chilean capital.
It is necessary to emphasize that precisely in Santiago del Estero there were introduced also the first grapevines of this country, taken by the priest Cedrón for the same years.
